Narcissism & Self Loathing:
A Brand Standards
book design / exhibition design / copywriting / art direction
What would happen if I were to treat a human being as a company or a product to be sold, and I held that person to a strict brand and style guide? I wondered what would happen if I made a standards manual for myself, so I did.
The concept easily translates to individuals. Every day we make conscious design decisions meant to control how we want to appear to the public, just as any corporation would. Whether it be through the clothes they wear, the values they hold, or the content they post on social media, people are becoming more and more conscious of their personal brands. This manual is a tongue-in-cheek parody of your basic style guide. I made myself the brand, as well as the literal product, with everything from my social media to my outfits laid out and specified. The book is meant to both analyze and poke fun at how we all intentionally shape our brands.
